Widcombe Rising: Claverton Street, Widcombe, Bath

Claverton Street was closed to traffic for the first time in 30 years

for a Street Party and Fun Day on Sunday 19th June 2005

Ralph Oswick co-ordinated the day, courtesy of the Natural Theatre Company, and the theme was Victory; we celebrated both the 60th anniversary of the end of WWII (linked to the British Legion national programme of celebrations) and our (albeit temporary) victory over the traffic.

Emphasis was on family fun, with a stage, carousel, stalls and of course, the café society for which our high street is gaining a growing reputation. Plus the Widcombe Victory Waltz, written by Chris Dickins, where everyone danced in their best 1940's ball gowns...

The road was closed from 8am until 10pm, with the actual event taking place between 1pm and 7.30pm.

The Handbag of Harmonies choir also performed a Picnic Concert in the garden at Crowe Hall on Saturday 18th

A PHOTO SLIDESHOW CAN NOW BE VIEWED IN THE LOW WINDOW OF THE NATURAL THEATRE COMPANY ON WIDCOMBE HILL
This is a temporary unedited display of photos by Neil Kendall and Casey Nolan. A proper 'showing' will be arranged at a later date. We regret individual prints are not available at present

MANY THANKS TO EVERYONE WHO MADE THE DAY SUCH A SUCCESS!
